We apply to Government to reduce (or increase) the rate of duty published in the Customs tariff book.
If your imported article is not manufactured in South Africa, you may question why you are paying import duties? Is the import duty protection imposed by Government really required?
Conversely, if the viability of your your business is threatened by low valued imported goods by one or more competitors, perhaps you are in need of additional import duty protection.
We will apply to Government to motivate why we (you) believe that the rate of duty on a specified tariff heading or article must be reduced, or increased. Here are the application options available:
Tariff Reduction Applications
The rate of duty for an existing tariff heading may be reduced by application to Government. Alternatively, we may apply to Government to create a new tariff subheading to cater for your product if not catered for properly in the Customs tariff book. We will motivate why the rate of duty should be reduced given your specific circumstances.
Tariff Increase Applications
The rate of duty for an existing tariff heading may be increased by application to Government. Tariff increase applications are designed protect a particular industry or manufacturing concern like yourself from similar low valued imports. Alternatively, we may apply to Government to create a new tariff subheading in order to cater for your product if not catered for properly in the Customs tariff book. We will motivate why the rate of duty should be increased overall.
New Rebate Facility Applications
Depending on your circumstances and the nature of trade in your specific industry, it might be difficult or impossible to motivate the merits of a duty reduction application. You might also find that no rebate facility currently exists for your product or industry.
In such instances we apply to Government to create a new rebate facility to cater for your product or industry. We will motivate in the application why we (you) believe that a new rebate facility should be created. We will also make proposals Government of the extent of rebate (i.e. full or partial rebate).
